Internships
LWOB offers unpaid internships to law and undergraduate students on a tri-semester basis: Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall. LWOB is looking for any interns willing or able to work part or full time during December 2009-early January 2010. Applications are generally due and will be reviewed at least 3 months before the start of the new internship term. All internships are unpaid, and our interns typically live in the region or within a one-hour commute of our offices. As a general rule, LWOB engages 6-10 interns per semester and 10 or more in summer. Otherwise qualified summer intern applicants who can work for the entire summer (10 or more weeks, uninterrupted) will be preferred.
Interns are required to:
* speak and write fluent English,
* have a commitment to make a difference in the pro bono legal or human rights sectors
* work in a team environment.
* during school term, commit to a minimum two full days per week and a minimum of six (6) uninterrupted weeks in summer
* be prepared to work on tasks that range from administrative tasks to challenging research.
* Law Students please note, we do not guarantee that you will have opportunities to do legal research during your internship--although we will make an effort to provide at least one meaningful legal research task for you if the opportunity arises.
Intern Applicants must indicate in your cover letter:
1) Proposed start and finish dates
2) Proposed work schedule
3) For Summer Applicants: whether you are interested in interning for entire summer (Summer Applicants) and those dates.
4) Acknowledge that you realize:
* the commitment is for a minimum of 6 continuous uninterrupted weeks (Summer Applicants should plan their vacations before or after the internship)
* the internship is unpaid and there will be no compensation for any associated costs you incur
* you will be required to perform administrative and some secretarial tasks.
Applications are now being considered for Winter 2010 and Summer 2010 Internships. Any interns interested in working during December 2009 holidays are asked to please contact the office immediately.
